More Bootleg Concept Art?

Cinema Confidential has posted some further concept art sketches. At least one of them appears to be proprietary stuff from Disney that has been illegally posted, so we won't reproduce any of them here. But if Disney wants them off the net, they'll be off the net soon enough. Check them out while they're still online at the link below.

(Ed. Note: As of the 31st, the artwork is still online, which indeed suggests that these are official releases. The webmaster at Narnia Fans has independently confirmed that this is the case.)

I don't believe that the artwork there is actually illegal. It was all given to Cinecon, and if it were illegal, they would not have posted it, or it would already be gone.

Right -- hence the question mark. Thanks for the clarification.

The link will get people to the pictures, and if they're legit they'll stay there. If they're not, they won't. So the proof will be in the pudding... So far, though, anything that hasn't been formally released by Disney to ALL media has turned out to be bootlegged...

I've got connections to the media publicist for Narnia, and ALL of the artwork release so far has been distributed by Disney, through those media outlets. Different images were given to different people and a schedule of release dates was also given, to spread the news throughout the year up until the release date.

That's an unusual publicity strategy, but still sounds plausible. Nonetheless, several similar "official" releases of concept art and cast/set photos have been pulled from websites because they were not officially sanctioned. So from the outside, one site's claim to exclusivity in this regard is just as vaild (and suspect) as the next.

Our position on this blog (and at the site which hosts it) is that we won't run anything that's not part of an official, verifiable release. Copyright is copyright, after all -- and why would we expect anyone to honor ours if we don't in turn honor those of others?

So if I can't independently verify artwork as legitimate releases, I feel obliged to point that out.

Now the really shameful thing about all this is how out-of-date the "official" website is. All the fansites and blogs have got has it totally scooped for months!

It's great that sites like Cinema Confidential are keeping on top of the flow of up-to-date info. But as is the case on the net, sometimes the info just flows too fast.

I understand where you are coming from, with regards to the images. I'd not heard of anything like this, until I started covering Narnia. In case you are curious, I'm actually the webmaster of NarniaFans.com

With regard to photos pulled, the only one I can recall being pulled is one of the Pevensie Children. It is now in many many locations all over the web, but they did a good job getting it pulled from most media outlets, as they've found it. Anyway, my point is, this isn't really "Bootleg" artwork, as the publicity folks do know of Cinema Confidential, as they did do a set visit, and would have told them to remove it that day, had it been in default.

Yes, the more days that go by the more legitimate it's looking! I'll add a note to the original post later today...

Nice website, by the way! And please feel free to post links to the monthly Narnia features at Hollywood Jesus. Coming April 8th: A look at the book version of LWW.

Oh, I've got this site bookmarked and it's a daily visit of mine. I plan on linking to each of your stories that you put up. They look to be very in-depth looks at Narnia. I enjoy reading this site immensely, and hope to bring even a glimmer of that to NarniaFans :)

Very cool. And keep holding our feet to the fire when we're off the mark, too. Iron sharpens iron...
